With technology being at its peak these days, the same can be said about the devices that being curated in the beauty industry. And with more and more devices coming out promoting various benefits such as anti-aging, anti-wrinkle and even giving more moisturising benefits, etc- one begins to wonder, are these products a cash grab or does it actually help promote those benefits that it is claiming?
Now on this page, we have spoken about the brand CurrentBody before, and having tried on their LED mask, we are happy that it proved its worth, especially after consistent usage. Plus to maintain an upkeep, we are also very pleased to say that with it, the skin has never looked better.
So while that proved to be a rather good review, we have another on our lap, and this time it is the brand's LED Hair Growth Helmet. And yes, while it is indeed a helmet, we have to say that it is quite a good looking futuristic one at that.
How does the LED Hair Regrowth Device Work?
Designed for those who are struggling with hair loss, lack of hair strength and thinning, this helmet uses clinically proven red light therapy at 640nm wavelength (cellular LED) to increase blood flow to the scalp whilst drawing essential nutrients to the hair follicles.
Meant to be worn on dry and product free hair for 10 minutes a day, there has to be consistent use for over 16 weeks. There are also 2 sizes to it, so if you are planning on getting it, kindly do the proper measurements first, but depending on your hair growth cycle, CurrentBody Skin does claim that you should start to see results by around the 6th or 8th week. We should also mention that the device is also said to give 126% more hair growth than any usage of supplement treatments, laser and more as well.
CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet is the most effective at-home hair growth treatment. Ranked No.1 Best Hair Growth Device for Hair Loss by Men’s Health. Compared to other laser or hair growth devices, CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet provides broader coverage, promoting more uniform hair growth across the scalp. Additionally, compared to topical treatments like Minoxidil or Prescription drug, LED therapy is safer, painless, and more convenient, requiring just 10 minutes of daily use.
However with all of the benefits above, do keep in mind that the Hair Growth Helmet does come with a rather heavy price tag at RM3,850, so the main question is, does this device work and would the results be worth it?
Well as far as its instructions goes, we would have to say that it is pretty straightforward and simple enough to understand and execute. On our end, we are at the midway mark with the device which is about 9.5 weeks of continuous use and this is what we found in terms of the results.
The Results
Now the most apparent change that was noticed after using this device was the volume and the thickness of the hair. New regrowth, especially at the front was quite visible after the 6th week mark as you can see below and the thickness of the strands also gave quite a noticeable amount of volume and strength to the hair.
CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet requires longer period of use to see results because hair follicles need time to improve their health conditions. In the first month of use, you might not see significant changes as the LED light therapy primarily works by increasing blood flow, oxygen, and essential nutrients to dormant hair follicles while also delaying the production of DHT, the hormone responsible for hair loss.
However, by the sixth week, you could start noticing some changes. As nutrients reach the scalp's surface, which is crucial for ‘waking up’ dormant hair follicles and supporting the existing ones. Personally, I began to see noticeable improvements at this stage. With continued use, by the 12th to 16th week, you can expect healthy hair follicles to be fully formed. Tests show that this helmet can increase hair count by 33% in 16 weeks.
Highly recommend taking regular photos to record your changes because hair growth is a slow process, and it’s easy to miss the subtle changes.
Plus despite the product being a red-light therapy device, we were actually quite relieved that we did not feel any overly stimulating effects on the scalp which can sometimes happen. Wearing it did on overall feel quite comfortable so it was quite a good experience, however we do have to caution those with long hair to do a low ponytail when you have this on, as lifting it off too fast can cause slight breakage to the hair due to friction.
The Pros and The Cons
So after using the LED Hair Growth Helmet after 9.5 weeks, we have to say that the device does work because just look at the amount of regrowth that the hairline had over that course of time. Additionally, this regrowth was strong and even when you look closer, you can see that the strands are not thin and looks quite healthy.
Plus, even despite its size, it is actually quite comfortable to wear around the house. Plus considering that the device is also wireless and has built in earphones, you can also connect it to your computer to watch movies or listen to your favorite tunes as well.
The only downside to this however is that due to its size, you will be unable to bring it on travels as it can be a tad bulky, but other than that, the CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet does work, and most importantly, it works well. As always. do also note that consistent use for the first 16 weeks for this is key for the device to give you the best, optimum results.
All in all, we have to admit that the LED Hair Growth Helmet did improve the strength and density of the strands and it did deliver new hair regrowth as you can see above which was a huge plus point in our book. CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet is indicated to treat androgenetic alopecia, its use is indicated for specific classifications (you could check on their website).
But if you are taking prescription or over-the-counter drugs known to cause light sensitivity, please ask your doctor prior to using.
