With Dettol's Newly Formulated pH balanced shower gels
You may be surprised but not many people consider the importance of pH levels when purchasing a bottle of body wash.
Often when browsing through the sections, it's not uncommon to see that the public is often taken by the singular words of germ free, moisturizing, cooling, scented and more but combining these power mixes into just one bottle? Sounds like you would have done the impossible but yet it seems like the mission has been accomplished with Dettol.
Maintaining pH levels with Dettol
You see, pH balance does play an important role in our routine and the right product that is compatible to your skin's natural pH levels is vital for the skin to stay germ-free and moisturized. So when Dettol rolled in their newly formulated pH balanced shower gel, needless to say the ocd person in me was completely intrigued with it.
Now instead of going on technical terms, I am going to list on on how to maintain your pH levels in bullet points. Simple and easy is always the way to go about these things, I'd always say.
How to maintain your pH levels
1) To start of with, the Acid Mantle is the natural skin barrier that protects the skin from bacteria, viruses and contaminants.
2) The healthy pH for this is 4.5 to 6.2
3) Environmental changes such as UV rays, exhaust fumes, pollutants, dust, haze and heat are harmful to the skin and can strip away the essential lipids so cleansing with a slightly acidic cleanser will keep the skin moisturized and healthy throughout the day.
4) Treating the skin gently with Dettol's new pH balanced formula protects the skin from germ and bacteria and helps retain skin moisture. Not only that it also preserves the natural barrier of your skin.
Dettol vs Brand X
Now that we have a more in-depth understanding on the pH levels and maintenance, let's move on to the demonstration. Filling two little containers with Dettol and Brand X, we were first asked to spray some water on our arms and swatch it with a pH pen. This was just to test out our usual pH levels of course.
Spritzing some water on the back of my arm
The swatch of my natural pH level
As you can see from above, the pH pen determined my pH level was 2 *You may look at the picture at the end of the post to view the chart*. Not too bad but then again; it's a little on the acidic side.

Swatching on Brand X
A darker shade of green
Taking a look at Brand X, we can see that the pH pen had swatched a dark shade of green which gives it the pH balance of 8. Now this means that the product is more alkaline based hence giving way to extreme dry and premature-aging skin.

For someone who is completely obsessed with hygiene and cleanliness, you would probably know that I am often quite picky with my anti-bacterial products due to the after effects that it might give on the skin; eg: the harshness, the drying complex or even that awful medicinal smell that these products often have.
But it is best to understand that both germ-free and hydration aspects in this newly formulated Dettol pH balance product go hand in hand and are important to have in the household, especially for me when I have a little nephew running around the house a mile a minute.
