Affordable Lip Products for Dehydrated, Dry and Chapped Lips

Which plays better?

Now we all know that when it comes to lip products, there are tons of variations in the beauty market that can make us happy, but when it comes down to the ones that are functional and practical that will actually be a remedy in helping the lips stay moisturized throughout the day, there only seems a fair few that will help our lips stay on point.

Over the years, we have tried and sampled many which have either passed or failed in expectation and as much as some products promise to keeps those lips hydrated, it never seems to be the case for after a few hours of application, the lips will then begin to feel dry, cracked and worst of all, it can actually begin peeling. Now to avoid all this, we have come up with a list to help you all out. This is a combination of drugstore, mid-range and high-end products, so at the end of the day you will have options that will work for you in terms of affordability, availability and suitability.

Our Top Picks
Vaseline Intensive Care Pure Petroleum Jelly
(Best for Dehydrated & Chapped Lips)

Vaseline

First one up is our good and solid Vaseline 100% Pure Petroleum Jelly.  You really can't go wrong with this drugstore brand and the best part is, this product can be found in any one of our local stores; Guardian, Watsons, Caring and more. In terms of affordability, it is certainly there because depending on what you choose, the tube or tub, it certainly will not cost you or your wallet more than RM20.

Application

Verdict After Use:

An absolute favorite intensive care lip balm that is very soft and smooth and keeps the lips fully moisturized for at least 4-5 hours. This product is also multi-functional, where it can be used for the skin - dry elbows and knees as well. Shelf life is up to 2 years from its manufactured date and when fully utilized, 1 tub of 50g can last you for a good year.

Be Good Handmade Lip Scrub and Lip Balm
(Best of Dry & Chapped Lips)

'Be Good' Power Duo

Moving on to our second pick, here we have an exfoliation scrub and lip balm by home brand Be Good. We have mentioned this in several videos before and both products are certainly not one to miss. Now with regards to its availability, it might be a little difficult to locate seeing as there is no official store but the brand is pretty responsive on their Facebook Page and Blog so for reference I will list them here to make it easier.

Result

Verdict After Use:

Be Good has a few selections of both lip scrubs and balms to choose from but our personal favorite is the one in Afternoon Tea. The scent is very calming and when you put that exfoliation on your lips, it is de-li-cious!

Now for application, this is a two step routine where you would need to exfoliate your lips gently first to take out the dry, chapped ends and once you are done, simply put on the lip balm to seal in the moisture and heal your lips. Plus with regards to retail for both products, you certainly will not exceed RM50 as well, so jackpot!

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lip Therapy
(Best for Chapped Lips)

Ultra Repair Lip Therapy

This is a product that is often missed at Sephora but never dismiss its formulation for it is a solid brand that should not be taken for granted. Aiding mostly for combating dry textures, its Ultra Repair Lip Therapy is one of the best products to heal those dry and chapped lips.

Application

Verdict After Use:

One thing that we love about this brand is that it takes a firm stand to say no to animal testing and for all of those who are concerned about the product having petroleum in its ingredients, there is absolutely none in this one.

Retailing at RM51 at Sephora, what this lip product does is that it helps protect the lips against moisture loss while gently easing signs of dryness. It does take a while for the product to sink in as you can see from the above picture (around a minute) but besides this and its mild scent, it plumps the lips up wonderfully and is great to use as a base before lipstick (or better yet a matte lipstick).

Lancome Juicy Shaker
(Best for Dry Lips)

In shade Freedom of Peach

This pretty little range was recently launched at Sephora and if you have yet to try it, please do. There is a very fine line between dehydrated lips (moisture) and dry lips (lack of oil) after all and this product balances both with a slight tint under its belt. Now in terms of its retail, it gets a little complicated for Sephora Online carries 19 shades at RM112 each; where else if you get it in stores, you get them in 10 shades at RM95. No idea why that is but who knows.

Application

Verdict After Use:

The formulation of this product is very gentle and extremely easy to apply on the lips. As to the reason why it is called the Juicy Shaker, it is because there is a separation between the oil and pigment which when shaken becomes one great formulation

Other than the super cute packaging which was designed brilliantly by the brand, the product makes the lips very plumped and healthy plus it is excellent to keep in your purse on a day out for it also gives the lips a bit of color as well.

Estelle and Thild Lip Balm
(Great Lip Treatment for both Dehydrated & Chapped Lips)

In shade Blossom Beige

This one is a recent discovery and it is what you might call a hybrid in between a gloss and a balm. However when trialed, the product coated the lips better as a treatment balm and is great to use when you are prepping your lips before applying your makeup. Now there are four shades here which we will be expending in an upcoming post but in terms of  the product's retail, each of these colors goes for RM74 a tube on Sephora Online.

Application

Verdict After Use:

This product had a very comfortable and luxurious feel when compared to the others but in terms of its staying power, not that much. However on the plus side, the texture of the product is quite rich (as can be seen from the excess above) and when applied as a base and it secures the lip color of choice very well

It did a good job conditioning without clinging on to any dry bits too and as a treatment balm (and tint), it works wonderfully to ensure that the lips do not have that white residue around the rim as your routine goes on.  Plus in terms of affordability as mentioned above, the range certainly caters to all with a great retail at RM74 a tube.

Overall

Now with all these product mentions, its time to do a quick breakdown. If you were to ask for the longest lasting staying power amongst all these products, the winner hands down Vaseline; however if it is color and dehydrated lips that you are looking to combat, it would be Lancome and Estelle & Thild that would take home the crown.

However all of the above truly does depend of preference and the condition of the lips, so with regards, we hope that this article will be able to assist in some way.

Xx!
